Montréal based mezzo-soprano Colleen Bartley has established an active performance as well as teaching career.
Many of her students have gone on to pursue careers in musical theatre in Canada and abroad. Some have become successful pop singers, while others enjoy singing in community choirs, or for their own pleasure and enjoyment. Ms. Bartley is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience with students of all ages. She seeks to understand and help individuals develop their own unique voice, and pursue their own musical journey. An accomplished recitalist, Ms. Bartley has presented numerous recitals for Christ Church Cathedral's L'Oasis Musicale concert series, with pianist Lauretta Altman. (Songs My Mother Taught Me, On Wings of Song, Woman's Love and Life : Music of Schumann). Other highlights include a concert for Passiontide with violinist Sara Bohl Pistolesi, and cellist Donald Pistolesi at Congress Hall, St. Patrick's Basilica, where she performed Telemann Cantatas and Robert Fleming's dramatic The Confession Stone. Ms. Bartley was also an invited soloist for the St. Patrick's Society of Montréal's 22nd Charity Christmas concert. Most recently she interpreted the role of Lola in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana under the direction of Johanne Patry. Ms. Bartley can also be heard singing the National Anthem at Salle Wilfrid Pelletier (Place Des Arts), for all of Concordia University's Convocation ceremonies. She has appeared in both opera and concert (Zerf Productions), which included interpreting the role of Mrs. Gobineau (The Medium), and has also interpreted the roles of Johnsy (The Last Leaf) and Della (Gift of the Magi) in the trilogy Tiny Operas by Susan H. Bingham. A graduate of Concordia University, Ms. Bartley received both her Bachelor’s and Graduate degrees in Classical Voice Performance under the tutelage of Beverly McGuire, and also studied piano with Elizabeth Haughey. She has been a recipient of the Robert Daniel Ball Memorial award and the South Shore University Women's Club bursary.
